We Must Protect Our State's Investment in Good Roads.

If we don't, there'll be more congestion and pollution, more accidents, and more money spent on needless repair bills.

The TGR/TA is committed to protecting and enhancing our Texas highway system.

Since 1932, membership in TGR/TA has been made up of business people, community leaders, chamber of commerce members, professionals and transportation experts – Texans who understand that good roads lead to a stronger economy. Our goal is to support the efforts of the Texas Department of Transportation in working with the Texas Legislature to promote efficient transportation.

How Do Better Roads Make a Better Texas?

 Jobs

  • Companies thinking about moving to Texas rank transportation second only to schools in choosing locations
  • In today's high-speed economy, 70% of Texas goods are shipped exclusively by road
  • Every $1 million in highways produced 50 new good-paying jobs

 Safety

  • Less construction and repair jeopardize the major safety improvements, which have dramatically cut highway death rates
  • Growing number of safety concerns as Texas' population grows, especially in suburban areas

 Protect Our Investment

  • Texas has more than 77,000 miles of state-maintained roads, higher than any other industrialized state
  • Under-investment in construction and maintenance seriously erodes strength of $100 billion value of our highways

 Already Falling Behind

  • Texas ranks 43rd in per capita highway spending
  • The Texas Transportation Commission can fund less than 40% of products deemed worthy and cost effective
