ROUGH ROADS AHEAD
FOR TEXAS DRIVERS

HIGHWAY FUNDING CRISIS LOOMS

Last fiscal year, for the first time ever, motor fuel tax revenues declined from the previous years. This is a glaring signal underinvestment in the state highway system will seriously harm our state’s economic well-being and add to safety concerns.

We have been working hard with the good folks at the Road Information Program (TRIP) and others to determine the state of Texas’ highway program. TRIP released a comprehensive report detailing the woes of underinvesting in our highway program. The report is available on their website at http://.tripnet.org. TGR has developed a seven-minute video and some related materials that summarize some of our difficulties and also some potential short-term solutions. We urge you to share these materials with your elected officials and other concerned citizens. TGR will be making presentations around the state, stay tuned for dates and locations.
