TEXAS LEGISLATURE

Whereas, the 79th Texas Legislature passed many bills helpful to the highway program;

Whereas, the $15.1 billion provided by the Appropriations bill will allow TxDOT to continue its aggressive program of combating congestion and improving mobility while continuing the effort to make roads safer;

Whereas, House Bill 2702 rewrote portions of the omnibus legislation from the 78th session (HB 3588); authors (Representative Mike Krusee and Senator Todd Staples) responded to legitimate questions regarding the conversion of tax roads to toll roads, and also clarified eminent domain and potential access problems concerning the Trans Texas Corridor, issues raised by agricultural and property rights groups;

Whereas, a tip of the hat is due to Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, Speaker Tom Craddick, Senate Finance Chairman Steve Ogden and House Appropriations Chairman Jim Pitts for their collective work to deliver a positive budget package for TxDOT;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Texas Good Roads/Transportation Association in Austin, Texas on Thursday, July 7, 2005 hereby adopt this resolution and forward copies to the relevant parties.
